What are Edibles and How Do They Work?

What are Edibles?

Edibles are any food product that is infused with the active THC-A compound contained inside of marijuana. The many forms of edibles include baked goods, candies, chocolates, and beverages. They are slowly trending towards the most popular method of consumption, due to the differing symptoms seen from smoking marijuana (Red eyes, Pungent smell, etc..) and discreetness.

Health Benefits of Edibles
Edible marijuana products will typically provide the same benefits as other forms of marijuana. People ingest them to achieve certain effects, such as relaxation, or to treat medical conditions, such as chronic pain. Edible marijuana
products may also treat other health issues, such as appetite loss and weight loss, for those who have cancer.

How Can They Effect Me?

The effects of edibles depend on the dose a person takes. Typically, the effects increase as the dose increases. However, consuming too much marijuana through edibles is easy to do, and it can cause adverse effects, such as nausea and vomiting.

When Do They Kick In?

The effects from smoking marijuana only take minutes. Edibles, however, take between 1-3 hours to kick in. This is largely in part due to how food is absorbed into the bloodstream through the liver. Thus, the timing of an Edibles hit will vary from individual to individual.

Additional Information

In recent years, vaping and edible use has increased among U.S. citizens, while marijuana smoking has decreased, according to data from the Monitoring the Future study.
